Harvest for Hope: A fundraiser designed for long-term change

Thank you for supporting the Real Life Center’s Annual Harvest for Hope Gala.  All proceeds will directly benefit the families of the Real Life Center by enhancing our current family-based services, programs and operations, including life coaching, mentoring, and educational classes.

Since we started in 1998, the Real Life Center has served over 3.1 million pounds of food to over 6,500 unique families.

“Your gift of food is part of a much bigger story,” shares Cathy Berggren, Executive Director.  “It is not just about feeding our families.  As we interact with them during their visits to the Center, we all have the privileged opportunity to provide the first step towards hope and to be a catalyst for long-term change.”

We invest in our families by providing a safe environment first.  We aim at building a sense of community around them as they walk through their challenges in life.  We provide resources such as financial assistance, food, and clothing to help them reach stability.  We honor their dignity by offering a client-choice food pantry, by providing nutritional fruits and vegetables, by listening to their stories, and by praying with them.

We help them achieve lasting change through goal setting, educational classes, career assistance, and by connecting them to community resources.  “Our classes allow our families to learn new skills, build confidence and feel empowered,” Cathy elaborates.  “We honor our principles of giving responsibility back to our families by surrounding them with the necessary tools to equip them for life,” Cathy concludes.

Approximately 97% of the $45,326 net income from the 2016 Gala has been, and will be spent, on the following activities that were indicated in the Gala advertising materials:

  • Enhancement of current education/training programs – 51%
  • One-on-one mentoring – 15%
  • Life coaching – 16%
  • Wellness – 15%

The remainder of the funds raised were spent on financial assistance to the families that form the core of those who participate in the activities above.

Thank you for your support!
